Description
Beautiful antique handpainted porcelain plate made by Rosenthal Elite of Bavaria, Germany. The mark dates this plate to the early 1900s. The painting has an autumn theme with wild white roses, multicolored berries (I don't think they are grapes because the leaves are different), and colored leaves on a sunset sky with shades of yellow, green and blue. There are two handles so this might be a sandwich or other serving tray; the handles also have a molded leaf design. The plate measures 10 1/2" across from handle to handle. The painted background extends all around to the back of the plate and there is an artist signature in red "JE McM" in addition to the Rosenthal mark. There is no wear to the painted design and the only flaw I can detect is a mm flake on the back of the handle (see photo) which is hard to even see, I felt it with my finger. There are of course also a few errant paint marks and scuffs on the foot, which is normal from handling. This is a lovely plate with a fall vibe that would make a great addition to any antique cabinet plate collection! Please feel free to ask any further questions.
