Description

This early Philipp Rosenthal cabinet plate is in the Carmen shape, and features a painting by (Oskar) Frenzel based on the better known "Psyche at Nature's Mirror/Psyche am Wasserspiegel" painting of Friedrich Paul Thumann. The original painting was shown at the World's Columbian Exposition in Chicago in1893 and the rights were purchased by the White Rock Beverage Company and used on their label for many years. Many versions of the painting were made by other artists, this one with the figure facing the opposite direction from the original. The artist's signature can be found on the right side of the rock. There are no chips, cracks, breaks, or scratches on the plate, and the colors are appropriately muted. The plate is about 8 1/2" in diameter. The Rosenthal mark is that used from 1891-1906.
